but we have as little say in how they are run as we do our jobs

maybe even less so

our network is not a democracy

but it could be

as we move from an offline gov to an online corp society

breaking is  more important than ever

if we cnnot break open our machines to take them a[art

we have nothing

because we cant break into a mobile phone we cant change the world

we have always taken apart the environment around us

just to see how it works

to see if we can put it back

we naturally test our boundaries

mentally

physically

finding our boundaries and breaking them is how we find something new

breaking is discovery

as a consumer you shouldnt DONT have to know why…

its not the consumers job to know that something is better, its not the consumers job to have an opinion on something they havent seen

woz and i er had know each other since i was about 12 or 13 years old.  and we built/ our first project together was these little blue boxes to er make free telephone calls

first there was the sun

then we built the churches

then there was a hole

In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.

One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and pop! Out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. he started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate through one apple. But he was still hungry

On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.

On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry

On Saturday he ate through…..

The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better.

Now he wasn’t hungry anymore- and he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more.

He was a big, fat caterpillar

He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks

Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out ………

He was a beautiful butterfly!

It’s such a simple operation, you’d think everyone already knows how to copy, cut, and paste.

You can think of it like an actual piece of paper, for example a letter. When you photocopy the letter, it creates a duplicate and the original stays intact. Cutting a block of text out of the letter, on the other hand, removes that portion from the letter.

On your computer, when you copy a file, image, text or other item, it creates a duplicate of that item in your computer’s temporary memory

Cutting an item will remove it from the page or folder and hold it in memory, as above.

You can almost always copy (duplicate) something, like a phrase on a web page, but cutting is only possible if you have editing or administrative control of the item. For example, you can’t cut phrases out of web pages you visit in your browser (imagine what the web would look like if everyone could!). There are exceptions, like editable websites like Wikipedia, but that’s because you have editing control on that site.

Once you’ve copied or pasted something into memory, you can then paste it into another document, file, or folder. Here’s how

I took the peculiar object that the doctor gave me and followed his instructions, bringing the map closer to my face I realised that I was, indeed, lost. I tried to trace my finger over where I had just been but the route only disappeared.

Remembering what I was told, baring in my mind the events of the previous day, I chose to resort to the tried and tested method of dealing with such situations. Having done so I was able to continue with what I was doing.

As I felt the ground move beneath my feet, my mind was cast back to where I had just been. I remembered all the details, that I won’t bore you with again, and the people we met there. I pondered all the events that had lead me here so close, yet so far, from my goal. I’d worked so hard, travelled so long but I was finally here; the middle. The place between the end and the beginning. I, of course, never started, and will never end. I will always be in the middle, becoming-middle.

The markets search for clarity, yet mass appeal has created a language with no room for itself, there is no room for paradox or creativity in it, no room for feelings or humanity to be expressed. They are dead shells of words, either through over-use or a re-appropriation of its meaning. A Taxonomy for the un-educated and interested

A meme contains between 2 and 3 parts.

  1. the vessel
  2. the inserted message
  3. (optional) the addition

First is the vessel or unit which carries the message, the vessel itself both relates to and sets the tone for the message. The vessel serves as the first half of the message, before someone has even begun to read, if they know their memes, they have already received and understood what tone and type the rest of the message will be. In this way, the vessel is both medium and message as the medium is also an integral part of the message. Picture it as a transparent envelope, overcoded with its own writing, carrying a letter. Or, perhaps, an overcoded piece of laminate over a piece of writing.

There are hundreds, spend a week on reddit or any other equivalent and you will soon become well versed in the ones popular at the time. As a side note, the last three have the highest potential to reveal bad-thought, immaturity, arrogant illogic and other sour tasting things.

The inserted message is then the part that the individual user adds themselves. In order for it to be successful, however, they have to fit their message into the vessel, incongruence is not accepted…unless it’s intentional. There are clearly two ways of approaching the inserted message, either come up with the message first and find appropriate vessel or, on the other hand, fit a message to a vessel.

Generally, inserted messages are presented as first hand stories, however, there is no way of knowing or validating this, only going along for the ride.

These stories are usually self-deprecating but can be viewed as humorous, an epic win that they feel complleded to share, or they can conform to the nerd/geek stereotype. Another popular form is the rage meme.

Finally, the additional content can come in any form but usually involves a title that introduces or adds more information to the message. For example, let’s say someone posts an awkward seal meme and explains that he caught his mother and father having sex, the meme itself may read ‘came home from school/ walked in on my parents having sex in the kitchen’ but the title above the meme could read ‘I just slammed the door and ran’.
